The Flow
I love all things which flow,
their flowing a gentle reminder
of when I have blocked my flow,
of when I would rather hold my life
than be living.
We create these pools at our own peril,
making our lives muddy and stagnant,
withholding the flow from those downstream
as if we can ever fully control the grace which is life.
I am among the broken branches which clog our waterways,
the parts of me broken and spindly
catching on leaves and on others
making quite a mess.
First time and then prayer have smoothed me
from the inside out.
Now like a piece of driftwood
I am cast about in the flow,
or sent to the shore to watch life float by
knowing even in the ebbs
I am never separate from the flow.
