1. Introduction
Welcome to Brian's Poems (https://brianspoems.com). This Privacy Policy outlines how your personal information is collected, used, and protected when you visit this website.
2. Information We Collect
We do not collect any personal information, and you are never asked to identify yourself. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, and no forms that submit anywhere. We do measure basic site usage — how many people visit, which pages are read, and how quickly they load — anonymously and in aggregate, as described under Site usage measurement below.
Your searches stay on your device. This site is a static, client-side application: your
search queries are matched entirely within your own browser (using a database compiled to WebAssembly)
and are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. Search terms are deliberately kept in the part of the
web address after the # symbol, which browsers never send to any server.
Site usage measurement. We measure basic site usage with
Cloudflare
Web Analytics, a privacy-focused measurement tool from our hosting provider, Cloudflare. As you view
pages, a small script reports information about each page view: the page visited, the site that referred
you (if any), your country, your browser, operating system and type of device (desktop, mobile or
tablet), and how quickly the page loaded. It does not use cookies or any other storage on your
device, does not fingerprint your device or browser, and does not track you across other websites.
Because the title of the poem you are reading appears in the web address, that page view is included in
this measurement. What you type into the search box is not: searches stay in the part of the address
after the #, and that part is left out of the measurement. We look at this information only
in aggregate — to see how many people visit and which writing is finding readers. It is never sold,
shared, or used to build a profile of you.
Your privacy signals are honored. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) or Do Not Track (DNT) signal, the measurement script is not loaded at all, so nothing about your visit is reported. Some browsers send these signals by default; others offer them as a setting or an extension. Measurement also runs only on brianspoems.com itself, never on test or preview copies of the site. Cloudflare provides the measurement as our service provider; we do not sell or share personal information, and we treat a GPC signal as an opt-out of any sale or sharing under applicable state privacy laws, such as California's.
Local Storage: Your browser's local storage is used only to remember your light/dark theme preference on this device. This information stays on your device and is never sent to us.
Hosting Provider: Like any website, our hosting infrastructure (Cloudflare) processes standard connection information (such as your IP address) as a normal, automatic part of delivering pages over HTTPS. We do not retain this data ourselves or use it to identify individual visitors.
Offline copies. The offline edition of this collection contains no analytics whatsoever and makes no network requests at all — once downloaded it never contacts this site or anyone else, so nothing you read or search in it can be seen by us. It is a single self-contained file (about 6 MB) holding the entire collection, the search index and the fonts: download the offline edition. Save it, then open it by double-clicking; it works with no internet connection at all.
3. Cookies
This site does not use cookies of any kind, including for analytics.
4. Third-Party Links and Affiliates
Our website contains links to external sites, specifically Amazon, to purchase printed volumes of poetry. If you click on an external link, you will be directed to that third party's site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to outside parties.
6. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the Effective Date above is updated and the change is described here.
October 9, 2026: The site usage measurement is no longer loaded for visitors whose browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, and it runs only on brianspoems.com itself (section 2). Nothing new is collected; fewer visits are measured.
September 10, 2026: Section 2 now describes the site usage measurement in more detail — adding that it records your operating system and how quickly pages load — and states plainly that your searches are never part of it. Nothing new is collected; this clarifies what has been measured since September 1, 2026.
September 1, 2026: Cookieless page analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) were added, as described in section 2, so the author can see which poems are being read. Searches continue to run entirely in your browser and are still never transmitted, and the site still sets no cookies.
