Search tips

Search by title, first line, poem text, book, or type — results appear as you type. Look inside the poems for any word or line, or wrap a phrase in "quotes" to find it exactly. Use the chips and the book menu to narrow things down.

Collapsing

I like the word collapsing.
It conjures for me the image of something
falling and folding in upon itself.
It denotes the passage of time
and a certain inevitability.

A wave collapses
then withdraws into the sea.
The market collapses
leaving the investor penniless.
When a lung collapses
the victim becomes breathless.

Yet my life collapses,
and I am reborn.
