Don often sat for hours, even for days, alone in the wilderness. He preferred to be near water, but it really didn’t matter whether he sat by a stream or deep in the forest so long as he was secluded. Don died seven years go, and it’s taken me this long to know why it is he sat in nature. He never thought to tell me. I never knew to ask. It’s profoundly true, some things you’ve just got to learn on your own.
