Words
If words were food,
I could cook something magnificent.
If words were flowers,
I could fill this room with scented color.
If words were feathers,
I could make a giant, comfy down pillow.
Words are wounding.
They make thoughts real.
Words are healing.
They offer forgiveness.
Long is the history of
the words which fall out of my mouth,
of the words which spill from my pen.
I believe I know my words well,
yet I do not control them,
or understand fully their power.
If there are a thousand doorways to the Kingdom of God,
words surely are the key to one of them.
How humbling it is for me to admit,
I do not possess this key even though
I have held it.
