Trading Hardware for Software
I fell in love with a computer -
Windows 95.
Do you remember that?
Mick Jagger singing, “If you start me up,”
as the mouse pointer clicks
the new START button.
I fell in love with a computer
and maybe that’s all good,
for it was innocent enough.
But what I really wanted
was to fall in love with a woman.
My computer knew the sad story,
how she wasn’t that into me,
how I loved in vain,
how it was all megahertz and megabytes for me...
at least for the next few years.
Eventually the computer lost its luster.
Over many months and many miles
I gradually grew up.
I traded time in front of the screen,
for walks and movies and holding hands.
Though I fell in love with a computer,
it just wasn’t meant to be.
Now we just work together.
