Three Nights

1
It’s cold and I am running solo through the dark woods. My mind is moving towards clarity, my head is pointed downward. Such a strange thing is a shadow cast by the moon. It does not concern me long, for my thoughts turn quickly to my blue woman.

2
Two weeks only and I can hardly remember her. I won’t undo the Marshall Tucker sounds and pretty girl smiles for just anyone. She is different, however. How can a brown-eyed girl make me so blue?

3
Xerxes Largo, a chocolate drink box, and a call from Dave do so much to calm this insipid dreaming. Drugs couldn’t possibly work better. I know it. A needle never confessed its wonder to me. I stitched my bed spread with her rotten spells cast in casual glances, deep sighs, and overwhelmingly outrageous outbursts. But bitterness is not my drink - the lust is far too sweet.

Welcome to my new day. It is not really so new, but it feels much calmer and is like a forgotten rhythm - a peaceful one.

I am struck by the desire to write wonderful songs. How about something of growing up in Ohio? Or maybe I could put something together about a guy who smiled all the time. But my favorite would have to be about the young lovers and their quiet lust underneath the willow tree.

You got something you just can’t hold.
That’s love in your heart, but you still feel cold.
Like water in your hand when you squeeze, it’s free.
Damn that girl - she ain’t too sure about me.

She meets the world on her terms.
Everyday.
In the afternoon come rainy thoughts and impotence.
But I won’t let them
touch her with a deep calm voice
All is put to right.
Watch out!
That cat ain’t her - she’s a stick of dynamite
I trade spices -
cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate, just to be near her.
She buys them all for a smile,
in her heart a crocodile
Magnets she just don’t understand.
She moves so slowly on dry land.

Feel the stream of consciousness.
Sex, money, politics, power steals the soul.
Sell yourself for some fame.
Wide-eyed children know your name.
Don’t worry it will all fit on a zip drive.
Do I really believe someone will try and decipher this?
Sleepy.
Broad Road.
Need dry wall mud - least of problems.
Taxes.
Got to read a little before
I sleep.
