The Call of Duty
...is to love and be loved.
It’s easier to fool a young man
with promises of immortality
and delusions of grandeur
than to convince him patience
will deliver him to a new life
through and beyond
the death he fears.
Give a man reason to die
and watch him do so gladly.
Offer a man a long life
in deep connection to his heart,
and the first time around
he’ll always choose death.
