Still at War

Know thyself, know thy enemy.

It is always worry
about my ability to manage
the big responsibilities
that keeps me awake at night.
Seldom do I acknowledge
all those little fires
smoldering deep inside.

I push away bodily sensation
and ignore the whispers
about my infirmities
or any weakness within.

You see,
I’m still living at war,
so I only spot warriors
and not a peaceful world
with stones made for sitting,
where the darkest nights
are but a sacred space
for silence and tranquility.
