Simply Rose

She thanks me sincerely for the rose,
But am I the reason from the ground it grows?
Water goes to water, and life goes to life,
happiness springs from freedom, and laziness breeds strife.

Apathy is the seed of our country’s new wealth.
like the honeysuckle in the spring,
it grows with incredible stealth.
And with no bloom it eventually becomes sterile,
green indifference.

In the garden the seraphs guard god’s roses.
Quadroons are pricked by the thorns of beauty.
In the dark three words come so easy.
Light will raze the dim ignorance.

No, thank you for the rose...I will simply be.
