She Says to Me
Our house was not stellar. It was simple, shotgun style. I really liked the screened porch. My grandmother would sit out there, weather permitting... I heard it all as poetry - the simplicity, the sweet memories, the love - all of it alive inside of her. She draws me closer with her words. As I come closer my shadow disappears. Now hear this as a prayer for the beauty within us all, for the dark which enables us to know the light, for the exhausting struggle it is to love this moment, to love this life, to love myself: When I am alone I am lonely. When I am with her I am living. When I am with God I am loving.
