Sacred Hour
Here comes the day, too soon followed by the sound of traffic, then light peeking through the Venetian blinds, arousing anxious thoughts about my job. This is the sacred hour, the time before the clock begins to count down through every item on my calendar. It is the period each morning, when I can relax, assured I am the beloved. This strange world with its many layers, and presided over by both the well-intentioned and the self-serving, impatiently awaits my arrival. Participation is the essential element of God’s love for all of life, no matter how confusing, how demanding, how beautiful, or how overwhelmingly infinite. The hour, my sacred hour, has passed. I am ready for this day.
