Relationship Man
There is a cultural disconnect
written in confused silences
dismissed in avoidance.
The fact that I was unhappy
that through my efforts
to examine the relationship
to understand my behavior
to change myself and to grow
to explore ever deeper levels of emotion,
my marriage ended.
What was confounding
now makes perfect sense,
but that is not my point.
I write this poem for all the men
whose desire for relationship
exceeds societal norms.
There are many women
as broken as any man
numb, hard, cold,
unable to connect to their emotions.
