Ramble On
I don’t like to ramble,
but sometimes I let myself ramble on,
and in doing so find pieces of fool’s gold
having fallen to the ground.
Soaring rhetoric stirs my soul,
but what journey changes my being,
then brings me to my knees
beneath the swelling belly of clouds?
Words are sharp.
I’ve used them to wound.
But here comes middle age,
like the medicine God intended it to be,
transforming my syllables
into millions of tiny raindrops
which slowly dissolve the heavy stone
lying upon my heart.
