Let Go Kitten

I love the old poster
with the “just hang in there kitten,”
clinging tenuously by one paw
to a tiny tree branch.

We’re all that little kitten,
hanging here and there,
wherever God has placed us,
yet still not sure we hang
exactly where we belong.

Yes, we’re all holding on.
I’m holding on
and praying not to fall,
while grasping more firmly
the withering branches of my youth,
and all those things
which no longer bear great meaning
for this season of my life.

Depending on the day,
it may be a little harder
to accept who I really am
than to surrender to my fate.

Let go kitten.
I know there’s someone
ready to catch you.
