Out of Focus
I cannot draw a straight line, yet my mind can take crisp photos, tiny moments frozen in time, and fixed to my perspective; the light, color and contrast all so brilliant I can smell, even taste them. Lately I’ve let my camera get dusty. I stopped believing in my photos, so why bother taking them? I thought my eyes could be trusted, but I found prophetic wisdom within my broken heart, and within visceral experiences located in the solitude of nature, and in communing with others. Faceless men in far off places have set an agenda without knowing you, without knowing me, without knowing anything beyond the growing urgency to fill some abyss. I’m done with it! There’s no moment nor memory more precious than this instant, more striking than the new day. I can’t photograph the prophets. Still they’re calling out to me from somewhere deep within saying, all kindness comes first.
