Hallelujah Money

When the means to an end
becomes the end,
you may find yourself in a box,
or at a therapist,
or at church,
or at a meeting
with the other dead-enders
who have so little rope left,
they’ve nothing to hold up their pants.

The day is fast approaching
when no sum can buy
the gratitude you will feel
for a comfortable place
to rest your weary heart.

Just remember,
there’s no poison that can be bought
for which the anecdote is less expensive.

Yes, your boat is taking on water.
But think long and hard before jumping off,
as you will have to become a fish.
