Movies
What is it movies have taught us? It’s too big a question for me, though I am tempted to say a little - that is the same very little we already know from the millennia of watching the other animals by day and the stars by night. There have always been myriad colors and creatures, intense sounds and scents far richer than any narrative contrived for our visual consumption. Nothing can take the place of personal experience, and yet stories and metaphor must be as old as any language. The limits of our existence disappear when the lights dim, the screen begins to flicker, and the first note is heard. Out there, just beyond our grasp, come the images through which God speaks.
