Good Enough
I am inspired by petting a dog
or drinking a glass of strong iced tea.
I think this is what it means to be alive:
to rejoice in the simple things,
like a good, strong hug,
like an afternoon walk,
like that laugh you share with someone
when you recognize those things you have in common.
There is ample complexity in life
which I mistook for a riddle to be solved.
But thank God for the humiliating experience
which led me to the edge of my resourcefulness.
You can take all I know about the Universe,
and it wouldn’t add a grain of sand to the Grand Canyon.
Still I know I am somehow part of it all.
That’s good enough for me.
