Fixers

Some of us are fixers,
which means we fix things,
or at the very least we try.

I’m pretty good at fixing,
especially small mechanical devices.
I feel good taking an object
not functioning as expected,
and through curiosity,
skill and determination,
along with some luck,
returning it to this world
with renewed purpose.

So I came to the obvious conclusion
I ought to be able to fix others as well.
However this quixotic endeavor
led me into a world of hurt,
where no repair is certain,
or always appreciated,
and perhaps not even necessary.

Those gift horses -
time and experience,
taught me to hold the brokenness,
and then to ask it
whether it truly needs fixing.
