Divorce

Divorce does not merely mean
the end of a marriage,
nor the end of all union
and the soul’s desire for unity.

Divorce also means
the end of promises unkept,
because promises were broken
or simply unable to be kept.

We place too much sanctity in the contract
and too little in our willingness,
no matter the impairment,
to offer our life
in service, protection and witness
to another.

Though the bonds of love
are both good and strong,
marriage is a contract of uncertainty,
and when it ends,
within its bitter demise
we eventually discover the divine grace
by which the Universe expands.
