Conviction

Metaphor has no effect on a rock.
Rejoice!
You are not a rock.
Let your heart liquefy
as you know it must.
It must.

Silliness,
has re-entered my life
through these sing-songy words,
improbable friendships,
bad drumming,
and worse dancing.

I don’t care.
I don’t have to convince you.
And the mountains, forests and oceans
never lost their conviction.
I have to convince myself
that my story is not a dream.

My life is a single syllable
in a universal epic poem
written here and now,
and now some more.
