Beautiful Unknowing

I trust there is an order
where I see only disorder.
I find great solace
in knowing I do not know
what lies at the center of a mountain,
what lives beneath the ocean,
and just how far away
twinkles that little star.

I see chaos in the Capitol,
the brokenness of men and women
run amok in a power structure
which consumes the needy
as it devours our humanity.

I often think,
No good will come of this,
only death.
But of course I don’t really know.
So much good has come
after my own death.
