Circular Time
A new story begins today overlapping the one already being written. Though I am just a minor player, I imagine the writer creating a scene for me, one in which I am standing alone warming my hands next to a fire, while the shadows whisper, Come closer, you’re only half-baked. My understanding of narrative is expanding, while my perception of time is compacting. Twenty years ago seems nearer now than the trip I took in April. And my father’s birthdate was more distant to me at fifteen than it is at forty. What is bending time? Could it be every story is circular?
