You Can't Rush Your Healing
Why resist this memory? So I say, Happy birthday old friend! It’s been many years since I last remembered the day of your birth with a word, with a gift, with a smile, with anything other than a clenched fist and frozen jaw. I surrendered several years ago. Still my humble confession makes no difference to how you’ll celebrate, or how you’ll remember our years and experiences. The past is gone. Someone once told me, “Forget it. Drive on.” And so I did. We both did. And now we’re little more than familiar strangers, no longer welcoming a chance encounter. Yes, Happy birthday old friend. Today a page is turning for the both of us.
