Unconditional Love
My heart goes out,
and I find it easier
to connect with children,
when they are around.
They are not fixed,
unable to be rigid.
Except in their momentary desires,
they remain open to the world.
To be around them fills me
with peace, with hope, with love.
Even as they demand my attention,
there is nothing I can do to resist.
I watch others relate to children.
They too are drawn in magnetically.
Yet no one can get as close to them as their mother; they
are her innermost expression of love and creativity.
Still that love exists within me,
given abundantly by my own mother.
I feel it deeply, groaning as it pushes me
ever outward toward love, toward connection.
