The Tortured Tortoise
Somewhere there’s a tortured tortoise. He can’t sleep because the waves toss him. There’s not much to eat because the fish and other animals are faster than him. He almost drowns because the rocks on the shore are too jagged for him to climb. And now he drags a net because a careless fisherman was too busy to cut him free. Still, the tortoise plods on beneath the sun, moon and clouds. He goes about his day slowly, as he has for more than a century. He knows tortured days are soon transformed, and a nylon net is no match for the sun, the sea, and the salt.
