Let the New Year Come
The good years pass by swiftly, the bad ones not quickly enough. Even before the ball drops somewhere far away from here, I feel a creeping uncertainty about the ambiguous new year. It all seems like little more than a reset to the calendar; the pointless incrementing of some arbitrary order. What would happen if we skipped a year? I pray to slowly let go of order. Let me leave it to the machines of uniformity, which will go on generating our invisible labyrinth long after I’m reabsorbed into the Mystery. So for now I rest my head and allow my heart to fall open, while I whisper, let the new year come.
