The Pathless Path
...for M.C.
As a child I spoke to the world and it spoke to me, in ways I’d forgotten until recently. Along my journey I never met a single tree, toad, squirrel or swallow, who mentioned retirement, or would babble on and on about rugged individualism. And when tall mountains would show me their fossils and tell stories about living deep beneath the ancient seas, they never thought to mention where they went to school or their plans for the future. Now, from afar, a woman’s voice needles me. She says that we all think we’re on the road to somewhere, when what we’re really on is the pathless path.
