The Gods Hold Sway

The gods had little power over me
when I was in my prime.
The best they could do
was to set a trap
into which I’d inevitably fall.

Now the gods hold sway
and there is little I can do
of my own volition.

Commands come frequently
from the seventh level of heaven,
and though they arrive as a whisper,
I don’t dare disobey.
