That Kind of Day
Yesterday was the kind of day of which I want more. God came to visit me in the most obvious place, a meeting room at the VA Hospital. Tears filled my eyes as I listened to a woman recall her mother’s death four years ago to the day. She wept for family members surrounding her mom’s bedside, all of them broken by the very same disease. Later that afternoon I drove past a deconsecrated church, my attention drawn towards the guests gathering outside for a wedding. Nearby were the uninvited onlookers - hookers, drug seekers and porch-sitters - quietly taking it all in. The stage was set for the spectacular common. As I counted all the people I thought: they came out of somewhere, now they belong to us all. It was that kind of day.
