Sing

...for the love you bring.

That which has been given
and allows the birds to sing,
now demands for me to sing.
But first I must let go of
silencing my timid voice.

Before I knew I could sing,
even before I knew I must sing,
I realized my life would eventually
be determined by my letting go.
Release after unfathomable release
of all those many songs
I am both aware and unaware
I cling to desperately.

Now I frequently try to sing,
and I’m sure others have heard me
thinking, he’s still got much to let go.
But I hope they can also hear
my quivering voice gaining strength
the more I am able to release.

And as I sing this song
I realize I must be careful
and not let go too quickly,
slipping into that dimension
the birds always trill about.
