Silver Dollar

Suppose your life is a shiny silver dollar.
How would you use this dollar?
Would you spend it the first chance you get,
or save it for something special?
Maybe you’d buy a gift for someone worthy,
or miserly hoard it for the grave.
Perhaps you’d righteously flip it to a beggar.
Of course the wisdom of our time mandates
you invest your cherished dollar
with the highest bidder.

I’ve thought about this a lot.
Quite possibly our life has become too precious,
and therefore more difficult for us to give away.

Yet spend it we must,
as it always disappears,
a few pennies here...
a few pennies there...
