Sensors

God help the born sensors -
those who feel every tingling,
so much so their hair betrays their thoughts,
and their skin predicts the weather.

I know sensors.
I am one of them.
There is no escaping the sensory overload.

This world is both satin and sand paper,
sonic booms and silent symphonies,
blinding light and opaque night,
incense and garbage heaps.

Longevity is terrifying to the sensor who wonders:
Will my senses fail?
Or will I feel every arthritic joint,
as my world falls dark and silent?

Redemption is enjoying these sensations,
knowing that our perceptions of them
are nothing more than passing glimpses of God.
