Reflections on a Tragedy
I haven’t been on the verge of tears so often since I was a child. My heart is torn, but it is a good thing. How can this be? What of those who lost their lives, their friends, and their family members? I know not what to say to assuage their anger, nor to relieve their pain. Yet today I live, where yesterday I existed. Feelings I thought lost but for the occasional romantic poem have surfaced like the adrenaline that surged within my veins as an adolescent. As the smoke cleared on the ruination of our society, the brilliance of life shone anew.
Some people like this country for what it has given them; others love it for the myth and power. But I love it for what it is: the grandest microcosm of all the world’s diversity. Despite the internal divisiveness, at odd hours of crisis, the many become one.
