Promise on the Horizon
The expected horde arrives and the siege begins. Not far beyond these walls is the ever-present horizon still promising me an escape. Trouble is all the ways out are also the ways in. So dare I risk my defenses? A soul under siege withers. There is no store large enough, nor any fortification more durable than the invisible enemy which sprung to life that moment I first looked in the mirror. These walls are already crumbling. Light now breaks in the East. I stand naked next to the opening gate, waiting to make my break for that horizon.
