On the Lam
As a young man I carried with me three noes: no preconceptions, no bad intentions, and the belief I had no choice. Today I still don’t know who was doin’ all the sellin’, but for the price of my soul I was offered a predictable life, with predictable highs, predictable lows, and maybe an easier exit than most. My head kept me in the game, but my heart made me a wanderer. It also made me a wonderer, made me a warrior, made me a worrier, and eventually made me wiser. As it turns out, the office park, the big salary, the beautiful wife and the well-fed family aren’t what they seem to be. I could never reconcile the life of an ordinary man with his dull fantasies and predictable problems. Life seemed more throbbing; passionate to grow and to expand in creativity and consciousness. I finally listened to the drum within my beating heart, then followed it on the lam.
