New Ice Age
The glaciers are receding
faster than the unlearning
of our aberrant habits
and complacent greed.
It’s not enough
to want to do better.
We must become better
in order for the future
to be inhabitable.
The rapidly melting ice
first shows us the bodies,
then pulls back further
to reveal long-hidden truths.
What we find are
rampant rape allegations,
rising sea levels,
off shore tax havens,
air thick with soot,
proliferating gun violence,
burning forests,
refugees drowning off shore,
and a new ice age just beginning.
