Today we opened a myth and grabbed the helm.
Suddenly we were in a mysterious realm.
Upon this strange sea, our conscience was set free,
and the mist hid nothing but you and me.

As we sailed we witnessed the miracle of birth,
and knew this realm was much like Earth.
We beheld the agony of violent death
as an Amazon warrior gasped her last breath.

Hercules appeared on the starboard side,
his strength rippling in the morning tide.
Across the bow the figure of Helen shone,
such beauty mortal man had never known.

Over the masthead flew a vision of love,
soaring ever so calmly was God’s white dove.
But the Ancient Mariner saw it as did we,
and wounded it with an arrow from the sacred tree.

Undaunted we plunged into deeper waters
until the ship hit empty coffers.
Each glistening box displayed a crafted name,
a man or woman of eternal fame.

You begged me to read the names aloud,
so I started with the man of infamous shroud.
“Jesus,” I read, but could not continue,
for we shuddered in the cold of this sinister venue.

“No more,” I said, “I’ve seen mine,
“and I don’t want to be part of this floating shrine.
“Let us plot a brand new course,
“one in which all people and all things are of an equal force.”

“Spread immortality as if it were free,
“but add to it this one decree:
“the violators will suffer Ahab’s fate,
“in this mythological world of love and hate.”

“However, those who do willingly abide,
“we shall escort to the triple divide,
“where water flows along three paths,
“and there are no such things as epitaphs.”

You pressed your lips against mine,
and the pact was sealed with approval divine.
The wind then blew in our direction
as we sailed on carrying infinite perfection.
