I like sitting next to a sleeping dog and his barely audible stirrings in the early morning. Medicated sleep and a simmering sinus infection don’t trouble me in my middle years, even though the pain in my head and the puffiness of my eyes necessarily narrows the wide eyes of my meditation. It’s Wednesday with all the telltale signs and then some. Melissa just left for work, the dogs are at the water bowl, and what’s left of Hurricane Irma is coming for me.
