Inevitable
Life contains a certain something.
I call it the Inevitable,
because it’s both near and far
like springtime,
or the implosion of the sun.
The former I know is inevitable,
and the latter I infer
from the work of those
“in the know.”
I accept the inevitable
so long as it abides by my terms,
a lengthy set of conditions
which often keep me awake at night,
until I agree to revise them.
There’s an old man in Uncertain, Texas,
who says it much better,
“If you keep doing wrong,
time will catch you.”*
