In the Mirror
Once again, I’ve come to a doorway.
Behind it lies another mystery.
Prominently fixed in the center,
is a large brass knocker forged
in the shape of a question mark.
There’s no need for me to knock.
The door is always unlocked.
I must only summon the courage
to turn the tarnished knob and enter.
On the pathway through life
inevitability manages my load,
but it is gratitude and surrender
nudging me ever-forward on my journey.
I still pause on the threshold,
think twice before stepping out.
Then I glance in the mirror and wonder,
will this be the last time I see
the person looking back at me?
