Heavy Truths

Lift with your legs.

A good night’s sleep
offers me morning calm;
my head clear,
my eyes open,
my heart ready
for some soulcentric truth.

Yet even on a great day
the truth may become heavy
and contain lots of sharp edges
which dig into my flesh.

So my soul says:
Call bread bread,
and water water.
Don’t deceive yourself
or anyone else
with verisimilitudes,
or with half-truths
to blunt the sobriety
of this present moment.

...

There is no greater serenity
nor joy more exultant
than knowing God is present,
even when the truth
is so difficult to accept.
