Hatched
The dog circles then flops down on the floor. He’s no need for a big show, only to locate his tail and a quiet place to lie. Meanwhile, I sit in my comfy chair staring at my toes, thinking about the unhatching of yet another day. There will be miles and mouthfuls, keyboards and callbacks, walks around the apartment complex, a haircut and plenty of doubt. By nightfall I’ll be fully hatched and in the morning an egg again.
