Groundless

A life put on and worn
can be brutal.
Even if by all appearances it seems serene,
indoors, a tempest.

The I that is my ego
never wanted to let go,
never wanted to let things fall apart,
only knew the concept of self preservation,
could only measure loss.

That I is dead.
Remnants remain in my pain,
then float away like clouds.
I wake in groundlessness.

I feel lighter than I have
since I was a child.
And though the innocence is long gone,
tears create the mud
which covers me in forgiveness.

Even as I am born again
my senses as strong as ever,
remind me where my pain resides.
So I go deeper to the love that is my being
and connect to that in others.
