Fall 1996

I have seen much, and heard much more still.
Yet many years will pass before I get my fill.
Each morn’ rips me from peaceful slumber.
I trip into the world full of sadness and wonder.

Challenges abound for all that I see.
So few stop to simply be free.
They run here and there, not-so-mindless drones.
I understand the plight their vagueness bemoans.

Five years have passed since I let go the plan.
One day this year I awoke a grown man.
My fears and worries I resolved to let go.
No longer would I fear Fate’s random deathblow.
So I resolved to see that place hinter,
where nary a snowflake visits in winter.

I know why there, but cannot admit
that it will look different with the same old shit.
