Dante Deo
Something stirred the pot this week,
a fact I hate to admit,
a conversation with a friend,
or maybe the bourbon last night.
All I know is I’ve stumbled backward.
Again today I woke suddenly,
a little too early.
In my dream a woman I loved
carved off a piece of her own ear,
yet it was my ear that bled, I who felt the pain.
My image of God creates me,
my love takes form in this world.
Who knew how painful it would be
to put down my shield,
how exposing those vulnerable parts within
would bring humiliation, transformation, resurrection.
The daily grind to move forward
through very little joy, mostly discomfort and pain,
an honest regimen.
When I yawn awake each morning
a groan I make
as I continue to be created.
