Be a Sponge

Be at peace
and absorb the stillness.
Be at war
and absorb the chaos.

Our soul is a sponge,
and this world is dripping wet,
waiting to saturate our porous being
with the entirety of existence.

I look around,
everywhere is a captive audience
and everywhere bloated beings
unable to soak up all
life is raining down upon them.

There must be a ritual wringing,
a drought of sorts,
where we can let go
of what we’ve accumulated,
until we are empty,
and then like a child sponge,
take in the world anew.
