Balloon

My grieving has come to an end.
Words about my marriage are difficult to write.
Where despair once moved my pen,
the reservoir of pain is running dry.

From time to time dark clouds surround me,
but they bring no more than a drop or two of rain.
I embrace my pain, understand its yearnings,
as it returns me to the source of our connectedness.

I fell in love and held it
more tightly than a child to a balloon,
expecting it to carry me to new heights,
tripped, let go,
it flew away without me.

What a balloon it was!
Divinely given,
but only for a moment,
so that I might open more deeply.
