Back to work! barks no one.
Yet we return to our desks,
doing whatever it is we do,
the nudging-pushings-leanings,
all the little actions that move this economy.
Nobody I know says do it.
We just do it.
No matter what the weather,
we try harder.
When we ought to make love and eat bananas -
we work.
Then we drink,
fill our tanks for $1.99 a gallon,
and repeat.
The next big thing will be when we ask ourselves why,
bring this relentless locomotive to a stop,
and vent the air brakes in one collective sigh.
